Jan Tore Jensen was born in Bodø, Norway in 1969.

He graduated from Umeå Academy of Fine Art (MFA) in 2009 and from Edinburgh College of Art in 2001 (BA(hons) in Photography), and works primarily with analogue photography.

What girdles Jensen's body of work is the prominent focus on the almost infinite ways of interpretation and meaning that the photograph represents and presents.
In his works he investigates questions regarding the place and meaning of the concept of beauty, ideas of otherness and structures of banality in contemporary photography.

Jan Tore Jensen has exhibited his work in Belgium, UK, China, Norway and Sweden.

In 2000 he was awarded the Kodak Student Merit Award (UK).
